Understand the Different Finishing Techniques

Choosing the right finish for your cabinetry project is just as important as choosing the door style. Stained and painted are the most commonly used finishes for cabinetry, however there are numerous other finishing techniques. Below are a few other techniques that are currently popular.

Solid

Solid color is to completely cover over the wood and grain – most popular option among kitchen cabinets.

Glaze

Glazing is the process of brushing a contrasting color on top of the base color either in the form of to wipe off or to dry-brush on.

Stain

Staining is an easy way to enhance the natural beauty and grain of the wood.

Vintage

Vintaging is a process of lighting sanding corners and edges of perfectly finished cabinetry to highlight distinctive details and the appearance of natural wear.

Distress

Distressing is creating natural dents, wear marks and scratches, which gives a sense of age.
